Prawo.pl has published an article by Tomasz Ciechoński titled „The Law Catches Up with AI: The Artificial Intelligence Act Nears the Finish Line” featuring expert commentary from attorney-at-law Artur Piechocki on the obligations arising from the European AI Act.
In the publication, Artur Piechocki explains who will be covered by the AI Act and to what extent. He highlights the broad scope of the regulation, noting that obligations will apply not only to AI system providers but also — importantly for the market — to entities deploying and using such systems. He draws particular attention to the expanded group of regulated sectors, including medtech, automotive, critical infrastructure, education, as well as border control and migration.
He also outlines the organizational and technical duties imposed on users of high-risk AI systems — from event logging and human oversight to control over the data used to train models. Additionally, he points to upcoming obligations related to limited-risk AI systems, such as tools capable of generating deepfakes or manipulating images or voice, as well as requirements for providers of general-purpose AI models, including generative systems.
Artur Piechocki emphasizes that even organizations not directly subject to the AI Act must still comply with other regulatory frameworks — particularly GDPR and copyright law — which is especially relevant when using popular tools such as ChatGPT.
At APLaw, we specialize in regulations concerning artificial intelligence, new technologies, and cybersecurity. We advise businesses operating in the #AI sector, supporting them in risk analysis, compliance implementation, and preparing their organizations for upcoming regulatory obligations.
